Description |
bHLH is a ubiquitously present DNA binding Domain. The bHLH domain is highly conserved and comprises ~ 60 amino acids. In bHLH domains there is at least five basic amino acids in the basic region and a highly conserved His?CGlu?CArg motif, which is found in more than 50% of plant bHLHs, are predicted to bind DNA. The helix-loop-helix (HLH) region comprises two amphiphatic ?-helices, mainly consisting of hydrophobic amino acids, which are connected by a loop of variable length. Proteins containing the HLH motif often form homo- or heterodimers with other bHLH proteins, which is a prerequisite for DNA recognition and contributes to DNA-binding specificity.
