Description

Plants have to associate with Plant Homeo Domain (PHD)-finger proteins for efficient deposition of histone H3 trimethylated at lysine 27 (H3K27me3) and transcriptional repression. PHDs comprise a patch of phenylalanine and tyrosine residues called aromatic cage, which can occur in several domains and can interact with methylated lysine. Biochemical experiments demonstrated that the three proteins interact specifically with histone H3 methylated at lysine 4 via their PHDs.
