| Description |
SANT domains (for ??switching-defective protein 3 (Swi3), adaptor 2 (Ada2), nuclear receptor co-repressor (N-CoR), transcription factor (TF)IIIB??). The SANT domain was initially identified as an approximately 50-amino-acid motif that is present in nuclear receptor co-repressors. Further sequence analysis highlighted a strong similarity to the DNA-binding domain (DBD) of Myb-related proteins. Initial sequence alignments, as well as secondary structure predictions, indicated that the SANT domain also consists of three ??-helices, each of which contains a corresponding, bulky aromatic residue. An essential role for the SANT domain in histone acetylation.
