Description

The ARID (AT-rich interaction domain) is an ancient DNA-binding domain that has been identified in all sequenced higher eukaryotic genomes, including plant. The ARID consensus contains ~100 amino acid residues. In many diverse species including bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals, contains jumanji protein family. JmjC domain containing proteins have been shown to be involved in chromatin remodeling, acting as histone demethylases. In Many proteins both Jumonji and ARID domain can present together. In mouse these group of proteins has been implicated in chromatin regulation.
